Dear Editor: On behalf of the Huntsville’s Promise Faith in Action Committee, we would like to publicly thank everyone who helped with the 5th Quarter event following the October 27th Hornet football game. HISD staff and church leaders estimated that between 300-350 students attended the event. We would especially like to thank the following churches who helped provide free food, drinks, music and games for the students as well as dozens of adults to supervise and provide a safe environment for the students: Elkins Lake Baptist Church, Greater Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, First Missionary Baptist Church, St. Paul United Methodist Church, St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, St. James United Methodist Church, New Life Church. We would also like to thank all of the adult volunteers and in particular, the Phi Alpha Delta sorority and Phi Beta Sigma fraternity groups from Sam Houston State University. Phi Alpha Delta helped serve pizza, and Phi Beta Sigma referred the flag football games before challenging the students to a game themselves at the end of the evening. Both groups made this 5th Quarter particularly memorable, and they made an amazing impact on the students participating. Once again, to everyone who participated, thank you, and we look forward to your help again next year!
