Dear Editor,
On behalf of the Huntsville's Promise Faith in Action Committee, we would like
to publicly thank two student organizations at Sam Houston State University, the
Phi Alpha Delta sorority and Phi Beta Sigma fraternity for assisting with our
recent 5th Quarter Program.
5th Quarter was an event put on after the October 27th Huntsville Hornet
football game where a coalition of local churches provided local high school
students with a safe, fun place to hang out after the game until midnight. They
had free pizza, drinks, music and games. Phi Alpha Delta helped serve pizza, and
Phi Beta Sigma refereed the flag football games before challenging the students
to a game themselves at the end of the evening (which they won).
These two groups represented themselves, and Sam Houston State University,
extremely well. They were great role models for the students, many of whom have
never met or seen college students in that atmosphere. 5th Quarter has been
going on for several years, but this year was one of the best, in large part
because the contributions of these two honorable student organizations.
Sincerely,
Scott Atnip, Huntsville's Promise Executive Director, Chris Mahlen, Faith in
Action Committee Chair, Elkins Lake Baptist Church, and Jackie Pace, Greater
Zion Missionary Baptist Church
