Dear Editor: On behalf of the Huntsville’s Promise Faith in Action Committee, I would like to thank everyone who participated in this year’s Impact Huntsville Project. I would especially like to thank the entire Faith in Action Committee for their efforts on this project, but particularly the three individuals who served in leadership roles: Project Director Chris Mahlen from Elkins Lake Baptist Church, Lunch Coordinator Sharyn Pezant from St. Thomas Catholic Church, and Block Party Coordinator Jackie Pace from Greater Zion Missionary Baptist Church. We would also like to thank the 14 site coordinators who oversaw the individual projects the day of the project and most importantly the more than 125 youth volunteers who gave up a full day on Saturday with some coming back out Sunday afternoon. Your efforts were inspiring to all of us who observed your work. We would also like to thank all of the churches and faith organization that helped with this project: First Christian Church, Elkins Lake Baptist Church, First Baptist Church (Avenue F), First Baptist Church (10th Street), St. Paul United Methodist Church, Midway Missionary Baptist Church, St. James United Methodist Church, St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, Greater Zion Missionary Baptist Church, St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, SHSU Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity and Men of God. We would also like to thank the following groups and businesses for their support: McCoys, Able Glass, First State Bank, the City of Huntsville, Good Shepherd Mission, Forest Glen Christian Camp, Town and Country Cleaners, State Farm agent Dianna Barnes, State Farm agent James McComb, Julie Mahlen, Huntsville Pediatric and Adult Medicines Associates. Through your efforts, students were able to make a lasting impact on their community by making repairs to 14 sites ranging from painting to building wheelchair ramps to replacing a roof.
