The Boys and Girls Club of Walker County raised more than $20,000 with their recent Bounty Hunt fundraiser.

A number of local figures, including City Council member Mac Woodward, Huntsville Promise Executive Director Scott Atnip and County Commissioner B.J. Gaines, raised an estimated $10,000 that was matched dollar-for-dollar by an anonymous third party. All proceeds benefit the club.

The fundraising came to a close Thursday afternoon at an open house event for the club at the Martin Luther King Jr. Center in Huntsville.

About 250 area children are served at the three locations of The Boys and Girls Club, providing them with tutoring, activities and mentoring.

“The kids we are serving would normally go home and not be supervised for a couple hours, some two to three hours, and we are here to just kind of fill that family void,” said Michelle McKenzie, executive director.

of the Boys and Girls Club of Walker County.
